Living the American dream - for more and more Germans the land of unlimited opportunities once again allegedly counts as an attractive holiday destination. The weak dollar rate makes it happen. 2007 was the year of America. According to the Visit USA Committee (VUSA) ten percent more German tourists travelled to the USA. The tourism branche currently is all smiles when it comes to the North American market. The selling of USA travels works out "as good as it hasn't been for a long while"- if one can buy into the statements of some of the tour
operators.
Alone FTI registered approximately 25 percent more bookings due to the current USA boom. But at the moment everybody is benefiting and that goes from the specialists to the all-round tour operators. Indeed, the German attendances increased of about 10 percent compared to the year before. In 2007 1.524.151 Germans travelled to the USA. Yet the high standard of the year 1999 with nearly two bn German tourists is still far away. The era Bush cut off the positive development, which shows a glance at the visitor statistics. Since 2000 the numbers clearly dropped from around 1.79 bn to 1.31 bn German tourists. As a result of the more positive news coverage around the current primary elections in the USA experts are hoping for a better image of the country. Another important factor which forwards this intention is the weak dollar rate. However, also other long distance destinations like Latin America or the Carribbean benefit from the well-funded Euro tourists. This year the situation for the Germans is extremly good. The record of two bn visitors may not be topped but maybe the high standard of 1999 can be reached
again.

The strict entry
conditions after the terror attacks are another setback for the tourism in the
USA. The so called ‘control delusion’ would discourage many travellers
announced Focus online last year. But one thing is for sure the USA are
undoubtely a diversified travel destination. They offer both city tourists and
adventure tourists an interesting mix of vibrant cities and endless vastness.
