If you like to see plenty of a country it makes sense to do a round trip,
where you always change the place and lodging after one or several days. Many
find it exhausting and wearing to relocate all the time on holiday. How
convenient would it be, to have a lodging, which accompanies you and serves at
the same time as a dependable means of transportation?
This is exactly, what a houseboat provides. For people, who
additionally like to move on water it is the ideal solution. For a lot of
houseboats, it is not even necessary to have a boat driver permit, but a
detailed introduction through the shipping company is enough. For a holiday on
water numerous destinations come into consideration. Why wander around in the
distance, when good things lie nearby? Very popular are the rivers of France in
the Alsace, the Brittany as well as the region of the “Midi” more southerly. The
“Ijselmeer” in the Netherlands also holds something for the eventually more
skilled boat driver. In Germany the “Müritz” and the Lake District in
Mecklenburg are a popular destination for ordinary seamen, not least because of
the child-friendly routes. The Lake District is also called the land of the
thousand lakes. More than one thousand interconnected big and small lakes form a
unique water sports district. The tourist can ride with his boat from Berlin to
Hamburg. A special regulation of the Lake District in Mecklenburg, which is
advantageous especially for the unskilled houseboat driver, proves, that you can
charter specific houseboats and yachts even without a license for sport boats
because of the so called charter license regulation. However there are certain
rules which should be observed by driving a houseboat without a license.
Driving without a license is only possible on boats, which are not
longer than 15 m and whose limit speed is maximum 12 km/h. The number of persons
on board is limited to twelve and the charter operator has to make a thorough
and at least three-hours long briefing in theory and practice. Besides there is
a certain limit of territories, whose visit is permitted without a boat driver
permit.
