Many find it exhausting and wearing to relocate all the time on holiday. How convenient would it be, to have a lodging, which accompanies you and serves at the same time as a dependable means of transportation?

This is exactly, what a houseboat provides. For people, who additionally like to move on water it is the ideal solution. For a lot of houseboats, it is not even necessary to have a boat driver permit, but a detailed introduction through the shipping company is enough. For a holiday on water numerous destinations come into consideration. Why wander around in the distance, when good things lie nearby? Very popular are the rivers of France in the Alsace, the Brittany as well as the region of the “Midi” more southerly. The “Ijselmeer” in the Netherlands also holds something for the eventually more skilled boat driver. In Germany the “Müritz” and the Lake District in Mecklenburg are a popular destination for ordinary seamen, not least because of the child-friendly routes. The Lake District is also called the land of the thousand lakes. More than one thousand interconnected big and small lakes form a unique water sports district. The tourist can ride with his boat from Berlin to Hamburg. A special regulation of the Lake District in Mecklenburg, which is advantageous especially for the unskilled houseboat driver, proves, that you can charter specific houseboats and yachts even without a license for sport boats because of the so called charter license regulation. However there are certain rules which should be observed by driving a houseboat without a license.

Driving without a license is only possible on boats, which are not longer than 15 m and whose limit speed is maximum 12 km/h. The number of persons on board is limited to twelve and the charter operator has to make a thorough and at least three-hours long briefing in theory and practice. Besides there is a certain limit of territories, whose visit is permitted without a boat driver permit.
